“Don’t be afraid to go against the odds to find what’s best for you.”
“On graduating law school, I had very little idea of what I wanted to do. I had a long list of what I didn’t enjoy, but that wasn’t much help in narrowing down the choices. Entertainment always interested me, but graduating with no internship or prelaw experience made it seem like a longshot to break into the industry. I proceeded to complete a fellowship in higher education and went to work for a small public finance firm, all while networking with entertainment attorneys and executives. Everyone I spoke with confirmed what I already knew: Without experience, it would be extremely difficult to enter the field.
“By no means, though, did I let this deter me. Kent Place was the first place to teach me that without a little risk (and hard work), there’ll be no reward. I continued my search and applied to positions as soon as they became available. I wasn’t going to let lack of experience keep me from jobs I felt were a great match for me. In fall 2015, a position at my current employer was advertised on my law school’s career services’ ListServ — I applied, but to no avail.
“Fast-forward to winter 2017: The position became available again, so I applied a second time and was hired! Within a few weeks, I knew I’d landed on the career path I was meant to take. Work hard, believe in yourself, and never let anything or anyone discourage you.”
