“Educate. Empower. Find your voice while lifting up the voices of others.”
“As an attorney and educator working with low-income and immigrant communities of color, I have sought to empower vulnerable communities to make their voices heard.
“At Kent Place, not only were our voices respected by faculty and administrators, but we were also expected to participate in the decisions that governed our school. We found our voices early and used them often. Perhaps more important, we learned to listen to the voices of others, support one another, and work collaboratively to achieve our goals.
“This photo was taken when the Community Development Project received the People’s Voice Award from our community partner, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, for our work supporting tenants in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, to bring affirmative litigation against abusive landlords. Samantha Bravo, the young woman next to me, is a tenant leader in her community, and we are surrounded by community members and colleagues. What an honor to receive an award acknowledging our work to lift up the voices of others.”
