“Take the time to appreciate our differences.”
“This past week, my friends from Kent Place and I gathered to celebrate what we call ‘Friendsgiving’ – our annual, potluck dinner around Thanksgiving time. Each year we go around the table and share what we’re thankful for. It’s one of my favorite traditions. What we’re thankful for has changed over the years, but one thing has remained constant: we’re grateful for Kent Place, the experiences we had there and the women it’s helped us become.
“I was the last to say what I’m thankful for, and as I looked around the table, I couldn’t help but realize how different we all are. Our diverse jobs – ranging from travel experts to art directors, to lawyers, to brand managers – are part of what defines us, as are our varying interests and opinions. Everyone brings something different to the table (literally) and it’s important to take the time to appreciate what makes us each unique and value what makes us individuals.
“The same advice can be applied to the workplace. In my line of work, every producer has their own way of getting a story on the air. No two stories are ever the same. Although the subjects we cover and the styles we have are different, we all have the same goal: producing the best broadcast possible for our viewers. I’ve found that there’s a lot to learn by observing the way others achieve success – you just have to take the time to look.”
