“Recognize the value of a support network.”
“I was fortunate to start at Kent Place in sixth grade with my best friend by my side. Navigating our first days, from opening our lockers to switching classes to making new friends, was all made easier with a friend cheering me on. When I started at American University, and later when I began my career, I made an effort to maintain my early friendships and continually build upon my network of peers, advisers, and colleagues.

“I left my job this winter in pursuit of a role that would create more opportunities for me to reach my professional and personal goals, and I was confident I had a community of advisers and advocates to help me navigate my way. Just like I first learned at Kent Place, starting a new adventure is much easier with the support of others.

“I recently accepted an exciting job offer, and many people from my KPS days and beyond had a critical impact on my success. I have a renewed interest in thoughtfully building networks and helping my own community of peers, from fellow KPS alumnae to work colleagues, whom I can support by making connections, offering advice or just giving an enthusiastic cheer of support. This mindset can be an enriching experience that not only leads to huge benefits in your career but in life as well.”
