Half-day Schedule, Today, November 15

Due to forecasted snow, Kent Place will dismiss on a half-day schedule. Buses will leave at 12:30 p.m. Primary School, please refer to MyKPS for your specific grade’s dismissal time. Middle and Upper Schools will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. The will be no lunch and all after-school activities are canceled. Thank you. 

Primary School

Kent Place offers numerous opportunities for Primary School students to extend their learning and personal growth beyond the school day, including clubs, performance groups, community service initiatives and more.

  • Breakfast Book Clubs

    Breakfast Book Clubs are a series of small-group literacy activities for students in K-5th grade. Various clubs are offered throughout the year and run four to six weeks. Some recent offerings included themes such as the presidency, poetry, fashion, mystery, philosophy, and great books.
  • Chorus: The Hummingbirds

    The Hummingbirds is open to young singers in Grades 3, 4 and 5 who enjoy singing and learning more advanced repertoire in an atmosphere marked by dedication and a love of singing. Students have additional opportunities to perform at concerts. Rehearsals are held twice a week, once during recess and once after school.  
  • Dance Ensemble

    Dance Ensemble is a dance class for Grades 3-5 that meets once a week during our recess period. Students learn choreography to be performed at the final Primary Dance Concert and possibly other events.
  • Eco-Team

    Eco-Team is the PS environmental club, made up of dedicated fourth- and fifth-grade students. Interested third-grade students join us in the spring. They are members of the Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots organization and are aware of local and global environmental groups and initiatives. Additionally, they help care for the science room animals, fill the outdoor bird feeders and work on the school's recycling commitment.
  • Math Lab

    Math Lab is a series of small-group elective mathematics enrichment courses for students in Grades 2-5. These opportunities enable students to explore math in different contexts and to be exposed to a variety of concepts to extend thinking. Classes are held selected mornings before school begins.
  • Mini Dragons

    This is an after-school athletic program designed to introduce students in Grades 4-6 to the sports they may play in the Middle and Upper Schools. The curriculum is designed to teach the girls the specific sport by skill practice, drills, and modified gameplay. Students may participate in more than one sport per season. 
  • Music Ensemble

    The Music Department offers an opportunity for young orchestral instrumentalists who have had two years or more of lessons on an instrument to begin to play in an ensemble. At the discretion of the conductor, and in consultation with a private teacher, some students who have studied for only one year, but who continue to have the support of a private teacher, may be eligible to join the Primary School Ensemble. Rehearsals are held once a week, during a recess period.
  • Spark

    Spark is the Primary School's literary magazine. The creative writing endeavors of all students in JPK to 5th grade are celebrated. The magazine is bound and distributed to the entire Primary School in the spring.
  • Tap Ensemble

    Tap Ensemble is a dance class for Grade 2 students held during a recess period each week. The girls will learn tap skills and steps, as well as choreography for a final performance at our Spring Dance Concert.
  • Girl Scouts

    The Primary School has a number of Girl Scout, Brownie and Daisy troops (K-5), dependent on the availability of parent volunteers and on student interest. 
  • Kaleidoscopes

    A Primary School affinity group for students who self-identify as students of color and all students who wish to engage in multicultural conversations.
  • Mileage Club

    The Mileage Club is an optional walking program that takes place during recess. The girls are given a mileage card on which their completed laps are marked off. When they complete the entire card, or approximately three miles, they earn a toe token. Girls have walked/run as many as 60 miles during the course of the year!
