I am excited to share our vibrant learning community with you. These pages provide a snapshot of our girls’ dynamic experience, from Preschool through 12th grade.
There are myriad opportunities and great joy in being a girls school with a curriculum that stretches each student to expand her horizons, talented faculty who help her develop a strong understanding of herself, and an environment that promotes risk-taking and exploration. What is best for girls drives our every decision. Whether in the classroom or our new Center for Innovation, on the playground, a sports field or stage, Kent Place balances tradition and modernity to support each student’s full development.
A Kent Place School education is grounded in a belief in girls’ leadership, academic scholarship and ethical decision-making. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about all we have to offer. We hope to see you on campus to experience us for yourself.
In theater, you have to be brave. You have to be daring, and willing to fall. Because falling is how you emerge, and how you move forward. –Bob Pridham, Theater Department Chair
CELEBRATE YOUR BRAINY SIDE.
Here at Kent Place there’s nothing uncool about wanting to learn. Listen, I’ve been here for 12 years and I still hop up and down with excitement when it’s time to start a new unit. –Carol Gordon, Upper School Dean of Students and English Teacher
DO THE HANDS-ON WORK.
There’s a real commitment to STEM work here. In Algebra 2, everyone has to do a disease project to see how logarithms affect epidemiology and how fast a disease spreads. In physics class we didn’t just learn about energy, we actually built a roller coaster. We learn how applications of what we’re doing apply to everyday life, which makes the work that much richer. –Ivana, senior
DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF.
I definitely thought twice about taking AP Calculus. I knew it was going to be tough, and it was. But my teacher was so willing to meet after school, hold study labs for the entire class… I have never, ever been so prepared for an AP exam. –Mary, senior
DON’T THINK YOU’RE GOING TO GET A LABEL.
There are no jocks here at Kent Place, no science geeks, no theater nerds. Last month a varsity athlete went to sing at the Vatican. Everyone here has some unique quality — and they’re amazing at what they do. –Claire, senior
GET READY FOR RIGOROUS WORK.
And multiple extracurricular activities. Busy days, and a few late nights. But through it all, don’t lose your sense of fun. –Alessandra, junior
IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE COLLEGE THAT'S PERFECT FOR YOU, COME TO KENT PLACE.
Simply being a student here is outstanding preparation for college and beyond. But we're certainly here to help with the rest — essays, test prep, whatever our students need. -Jennifer Simpson, Director of College Advising
KPS alumnae are amazing. I met one alumna after a math and science panel who works in retail architecture. That made me think about a cool way to combine two of my interests — math and fashion. –Amber, junior
SOLVING PROBLEMS IS A JOURNEY, ENJOY THE RIDE!
In the Middle School we do a Science Expo—either two or four people work on a science project for a couple of months and then present it to the entire class. We go into some in-depth projects and it’s incredible what we learn along the way, and how willing our teachers are to help us through the tough parts. –Toni Ann, eighth grade
SPEAK YOUR MIND.
Every girl here learns from an early age how to speak up and speak to adults. You never feel silly raising your hand, and you’re given lots of opportunities to speak publicly. I’m never shy about saying what’s on my mind. –Vittoria, fourth grade
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR ETHICS PROGRAM.
I have friends in both public and independent schools, and I don't know anyone else doing work like we do in Ethics. There's a Bioethics symposium and an Ethics Bowl, and it really helps me make decisions at school and even just on the weekends, in life. -Laura, eighth grade
