Some 300 Visitors Brave the Rain for Grandparents and Special Friends Day at KPS
The rain didn’t stop more than 300 visitors from coming to campus on Tuesday, November 26, to spend the morning with their loved ones. The occasion was Grandparents and Special Friends Day, the traditional kick-off to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Visitors shook out their umbrellas and warmed up with coffee and tea as they enjoyed breakfast together in the dining hall, which was beautifully set up with white tablecloths, autumnal flower arrangements, and an assortment of goodies. Head of School Jennifer Galambos welcomed the visitors, thanking them for being an important part of the Kent Place community. She then introduced Division Directors Kim Walker (Primary School), Neisha Payne (Middle School), and Evelyn Hanna (Upper School).
Next, everyone filed into the Field House for the Thanksgiving Assembly.
“Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate togetherness,” began Dr. Galambos. “It’s together as one school community that we can grasp the magnitude of our strength, and it’s in our sisterhood that we are most powerful . . . Today we gather together in joyous thanks.”
The assembly featured a myriad of lovely performances from the Pre-K class, the Hummingbirds, the Primary School Singers, the Middle School Singers, Dance Ensemble, Chamber Dancers, Chamber Singers, Chorale, and the Pep Squad.
Three student speakers — Alina Rosefort ’32 for the Primary School, Lauren Carey ’29 for the Middle School, and Senior Class President Julissa Beltrán for the Upper School — told Thanksgiving anecdotes and gave reasons to be grateful this holiday season.
The entire room then sang the Alma Mater before heading off to spend time in classrooms with their students. The morning was incredibly joyful for all generations.
