Rise and Shine: Morning Meetings Fueled by Leadership and Connection
Morning Meetings at Kent Place are more than just a way to start and end the week; they’re a tradition of student leadership and community. They’re a time to announce an upcoming event, share exciting news, or simply spread some good energy.
Students take an active role in the meetings, signing up in advance to make announcements to their peers, practicing valuable life skills such as public speaking, presentation planning, and time management.
In the Primary and Middle Schools, faculty members “pass the mic” to students; in the Upper School, a senior is elected by peers and faculty — after a trial period at the conclusion of her junior year — to take on the role of Announcer.
“I love getting to see everyone first thing in the morning and setting a positive tone for the day,” says Abby Weldon ’25, this year’s Upper School Announcer. “Each Morning Meeting is different, so there’s always something to look forward to.”
From the youngest students in the Primary School to the seniors in the Upper School, every voice is valued, and every announcement contributes to a sense of belonging. When a student concludes her announcement, her peers often cheer and clap in support.
“This year,” says Abby, “I’ve started announcing the lunch menu for the day, which everyone is very passionate about!”
