Raising Their Voices: Kent Place Choristers Recognized for Musical Excellence

Kent Place School choral singers have been recognized by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) for their excellence. The ACDA was founded in 1959 to promote outstanding performances in choral music.

Lori Mirabal, Primary School music teacher, and Neil Ginsberg, who teaches music in the Middle School, work with the students to prepare for association events.

Says Dr. Mirabal, “During my 16-year tenure at KPS, one of my favorite activities has been to help our students get ready to participate in state, regional, and national adjudicated ACDA choral festivals. This year was another exceptional one for our talented choristers.”

In February, four KPS students — Estelle Chen ’30, Nikki Dadgar ’31, Natalie Janiszewski ’30, and Alina Rosefort ’32 — made history when they participated in the first ACDA Middle School Gospel Choir, which performed in Rhode Island.

And this spring, Elise Halldorson ’34, Leela Khurana ’34, Zoey Lazaro ’34, Maddie McCormick ’34, Diya Ram ’33, Alina Rosefort ’32, and Halle Rosefort ’34 performed with the New Jersey ACDA Elementary Honor Choir. In addition, eighth-graders Kairady Johnson ’30 and Gitanjali Kameswaran ’30 sang with the New Jersey ACDA SSA Middle School Choir. Representing the Upper School, Lineysha Goel ’29 sang with the SSAA All-Eastern Division Honor Choir, in Providence.

Says Kairady, “Participating in the arts at KPS has encouraged my confidence, leadership, and collaboration. Being involved in the arts has also enabled me to challenge myself and grow in creativity. I’m most proud of being recognized by the ACDA All-State Choir because it reflects all the passion and hard work I’ve put into the arts.”

Says Gitanjali, "The Kent Place choral program has given me a space to push myself, learn, be creative, and have fun. I've learned to collaborate with other singers, pay attention to detail, and express myself through music, all of which have contributed to my growth as a musician throughout my time at Kent Place."

Congratulations to all!
