Middle School STEM Team Wows at Regional Science Olympiad

The Middle School STEM team delivered an outstanding performance at the Union College Regional Science Olympiad Tournament, held on January 13, earning an impressive third place overall out of 14 teams and securing medals in multiple events.

Science Olympiad is a national, team-based STEM competition that challenges students to apply their knowledge through hands-on building, problem-solving, and analytical thinking. Annually, more than 7,800 students compete in events that span disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and computer science — all while emphasizing collaboration and teamwork.

This year’s Middle School team consists of Divyanshi Bansal ’31, Bella Cai ’31, Claire Chen ’30, Estelle Chen ’30, Katie Cui ’30, Pearl Dawadi ’30, Charvee Gandhi ’31, Aanya Gupta ’31, Katie Hu ’30, Kairady Johnson ’30, Gitanjali Kameswaran ’30, Aadya Kumar ’30, Brie Peterfreund ’31, Sonia Sheth ’31, Gia Subbiah ’31, Myra Wadhawan ’30, Emma Xu ’30, and Chloe Zhang ’30.

The team’s dedication and preparation were evident in the strong results. In placing in the top 10 in every event — a remarkable achievement! — the team garnered:

  • Second, Anatomy & Physiology; Codebusters

  • Third, Entomology; Helicopter

  • Fifth, Crime Busters; Potions & Poisons

  • Sixth, Boomilever; Meteorology

The team is hoping to advance to the state tournament, on March 9, pending official confirmation once all regional competitions conclude and final standings are released.

“I’m incredibly proud of our students. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and perseverance clearly paid off,” says Wendy Hall, who teaches Middle School science and is the team’s coach.

Congratulations to our STEM team on an exceptional showing!
