Middle School Athletes Wrap Up Successful Winter Season

Middle School Athletes Wrap Up Successful Winter Season

This winter our Middle School Dragons soared through competition and postseason tournaments in basketball, swimming, and volleyball.

Volleyball held the second seed going into the Middle School Athletic Conference (MSAC) Tournament. The Dragons upset the top-seeded team in the final game to capture Kent Place’s first-ever MSAC volleyball tournament victory.

Integral to the team’s success are the captains, chosen by their peers to lead them and support their coaches. “Our team has bonded and grown together this season,” say Lauren Carey ’29 and Laila Ferratti ’29, co-captains, “which definitely helped us win the MSAC tournament.”

Basketball also saw success this season, and both squads (MS basketball is split into two teams, Team Dragon and Team Chumley) demonstrated tremendous growth. Say captains Gabi Pelzer ’29, Tessa Reali ’29, Chelsea Danso ’30, and Taila Avigdor ’29, “We’ve really improved since the beginning of the season. Momentum definitely came from beating three teams in a row in rematches.”

The Middle School swim team has increased in number and even added a day of swimming to the training program, which has paid dividends in the individual top times across events and for all of our swimmers. The team placed fifth at the MSAC meet, and co-captain Rose Ferreiro ’29 finished third in two events: mixed 200-yard freestyle and mixed 50-yard backstroke.

Rose and fellow captains Jillian Counihan ’30 and Rhiya Parmar ’29 say, “Over the season, the team has worked really hard. We’ve all put in the effort and grown stronger as a team.”

Congratulations to all of our Middle School winter Dragon athletes on their fine seasons! Make sure to check out the athletic schedule and follow @KentPlaceAthletics on Instagram to cheer on all of our Dragons!
