Latinx Night Brings Music, Dance, and Community to Kent Place

On the evening of September 23 — with colorful papel picado banners overhead and salsa music setting the vibe — the Great Room was the site of Kent Place’s annual Latinx Night. Hosted by the Diversity and Equity Parent Group (DEPG), students, families, faculty, and staff gathered for a taste of the rich culture with Latino music, food, and dance.

The celebration kicked off with lively dance performances by sisters Sienna Cruz-Espejo ’34 and Ellina Cruz-Espejo ’37. Guests then enjoyed food catered by a local Latino restaurant, along with a café con leche station.

The festivities continued with live music from Lulada, an all-women salsa band. And, of course, no celebration would be complete without dessert! KPS families contributed an assortment of sweet treats, including a tres leches cake.

The beat went on when everyone danced to more music.

“Latinx Night is such a joyful reflection of our community and the many cultures and traditions that enrich Kent Place,” said Walidah Justice, Chief Community Life and Well-Being Officer. “It’s especially meaningful to see our families come together to share their heritage through music, food, and dance while creating an experience that everyone in our community can enjoy.”

Latinx Night was an opportunity for members of the Kent Place community to share in cultural traditions, celebrate their heritage, and connect with one another. A special thank-you to DEPG Cochair Natalia Cruz-Espejo P ’34 ’37 and the school’s Community Life and Well-Being Team for all their hard work bringing us this joyful evening!

The next DEPG cultural event, in honor of the Hindu festival Diwali, will be on Wednesday, November 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!
