Kent Place Presents An Evening of Dance

Kent Place Presents An Evening of Dance

The Upper School’s Chamber Dancers and Dance Ensemble are excited to perform in An Evening of Dance, to be held on Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place inside the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum, in Morristown. Tickets are now available for purchase here.

The program will feature a series of performances with a 15-minute intermission. Throughout the evening, student speakers and video presentations will enable the audience to learn about the inspiration behind the dances. This year, five seniors will be presenting choreography in the Senior Project; three junior Dance Ensemble students will choreograph in the Junior Project.

An Evening of Dance will highlight and celebrate the techniques and movements we’ve studied over the course of the year,” says senior Jane Cepeda. “It will be a special experience to present work that my classmates choreographed entirely on their own, and to see their passion for dance and creative expression come together.”

“Audiences can expect to see a diverse mix of styles, from modern, to contemporary, to jazz,” says junior Amalia Benke, “with each piece bringing something unique and creative to the program. I'm most looking forward to performing ‘Let America Be America Again.’ This piece is emotionally charged, has real-world significance, and challenges us to work as an ensemble, which makes it fun and interesting to perform.”

Says senior Liv Peters, “Each piece has a significant meaning or emotion portrayed. As performers, we’ve worked all year to connect the stage to the audience, and I hope the audience feels the same passion that we all have for dance.”

Amanda Hudson, Upper School dance teacher, is the evening’s Artistic Director. The team is thrilled to welcome back Jenny Barbosa, former Primary School dance teacher, as Stage Manager. Junior and senior student choreographers, along with Ms. Barbosa and Alicia Kubeck P ’29, are collaborating with Ms. Hudson on costume design. Allie Weil ’27 is providing headshot photography, as well as additional photography and videography to support the performance.
