Kent Place Lacrosse Named State Champions with Historic Win

On Tuesday, June 9, Kent Place Varsity Lacrosse defeated the top-seeded Oak Knoll Royals to win the Non-Public Sectional State Championship, marking the first state title in school history and lacrosse’s first win against Oak Knoll since 2012. The game was played on Kean University’s Alumni Field. Green and Gold pride was out in full force, with a large showing from family, friends, students, alumnae, faculty, and staff.

Even though the game was close for its entirety, Kent Place led for all 48 minutes. And with just a few minutes left on the clock, the Dragons held possession until the final whistle, securing an exciting 8-7 victory.

Molly Brozowski ’26 scored three goals, Addison Quinn ’28 punched in two, and Cate Collins ’28, Mira Emany ’27, and Kaitlyn Troiano ’27 each scored one. Addison dominated the midfield with 11 draw controls. Reagan Larson ’26 made five saves in goal — two in the final five minutes. Her performance supported a strong defensive effort from Reilly Doyle ’26, Poppy Miller ’28, Sofia Sandler ’28, and Lauren Carey ’29.

The team is coached by Head Ashley Quinn P ’24 ’26 ’28 and Assistant Melissa Webber. Also assisting was lacrosse alumna Emma Claire Quinn ’24. 

Says Coach Quinn, "It is an unbelievable moment for Kent Place lacrosse and one we've been working towards since March. This is such a special team, and they poured their heart and soul into something much bigger than themselves. Our focus was always on the process, never on the outcomes, and it's the trust and belief in each other that allowed us to win."

Says Reagan, “It was an overwhelming and exhilarating feeling to win a state championship, especially against our rivals. To see all of our team's hard work every moment, every practice, and every game, showcased on such a huge stage is extremely exciting. As the final seconds ticked down, my heart was pounding, and when the buzzer sounded, I just ran straight to my teammates. In that instant, that moment wasn’t just a win; it was our dreams coming true. It’s a memory I think most Dragons will carry forever.”

Says Kaitlyn, “I’m so grateful to be part of this family; we’ve worked so hard this entire season and gave it our all for 48 minutes. And to our seniors: Thank you for your continuous dedication and the grit you show day in and day out; you inspire us all to be and play our best.”

This championship is a storybook ending to a record season: The Dragons finished at 19-2, their only losses to Oak Knoll. In addition to the state title, the Dragons went undefeated in their division, won the NJSIAA Prep A Title — the first in program history — and competed in the Union County Championship final for the first time since 2011.
