Kent Place Captures Third at Squash Nationals

The Kent Place team went to Philadelphia to compete at their second Squash Nationals and finished third place in their bracket. The girls posted an impressive 3-1 record, playing at the world-renowned Arlen Specter US Squash Center.

They began the tournament with a dominant first-round victory over Buckingham Browne & Nichols, when Kent Place set the tone with a commanding 5-2 win. Building on that momentum, they battled through a tough quarterfinal match against Shady Side Academy, emerging victorious with a score of 4-3.

In the semifinals, Kent Place faced a formidable opponent in Concord Academy. Despite a valiant effort, they fell just short in a hard-fought, 3-4 loss. Undeterred, the team regrouped for their final match, a showdown against Greenwich Country Day School. Determined to end the weekend on a high note, Kent Place delivered another strong performance, securing third place with a decisive win.

“I’m incredibly proud of our athletes this season,” says Head Coach Geoff Mitchell. “It’s not just about their dedication during practice and matches, but also about the exceptional sportsmanship they brought to every game. Their commitment to training throughout the season shone, culminating in a peak performance at Nationals. To lose in a heart-wrenching match to the eventual tournament champions was as close as it gets to a national title. It was a testament to the athletes’ spirit that they picked themselves up in their next match and battled for third. I’m excited for what’s ahead. Next year, we’ll build on this amazing season and aim for even greater things with this special team.”

With their skill and resilience, Kent Place squash is on the rise, as the team progressed from 10th place at the Nationals in 2024 to third in 2025, capping off the season with an unforgettable weekend of competition.
