Dragons Win Big at Sport & Spirit Day

Dragons Win Big at Sport & Spirit Day

Dragon fans came out in force on Saturday, September 27, as more than 200 members of the Kent Place community came to campus for the school’s annual Sport & Spirit Day.

The day began with students creating their own KPS spirit wear, complete with green and gold tutus, headbands, bracelets, and signs, then playing games to win KPS-themed prizes. Later in the morning, the crowd gathered for a BBQ spread and treats from the Kona Ice Truck before heading to the sidelines to cheer on the Dragons.

The varsity teams delivered a thrilling sweep across all competitions. Varsity Field Hockey opened the afternoon with a commanding 4–0 victory over Watchung Hills, while the JV team battled hard to a 0–0 draw. Varsity Soccer defeated Jonathan Dayton by a score of 2–1, and the JV team enjoyed a 2–0 shutout. Varsity Volleyball dominated Lawrenceville in straight sets, 3–0, and JV claimed a 2–0 victory.

“What a great day to be a Dragon!” said Vicky Browne, Director of Athletics. “The energy and spirit showcased the depth of our school community. Our Primary School future Dragons channeled their support by creating motivational posters for our teams. This spirit carried right into the games, with our Middle School athletes stepping in as ball girls and spearheading the welcome cheers. Witnessing our athletic success always ignites a powerful sense of pride and strengthens the sisterhood across all grades. It was an inspiring display of what it means to be a Dragon.”

The celebration continued at school on Monday with a spirit-wear dress-down day, when students, faculty, and staff all sported green and gold.

A huge thank-you to those behind the scenes who made the day a roaring success: the Kent Place Advancement Team; Cochairs Niki Chen P ’35, Mei Guan P ’33, and Samantha Good P ’30; the Parents Association; and the Dragon Athletic Club.
