Dragons Spring into Action: Season Preview

With the arrival of warm weather, our athletes are heading back outdoors for an action-packed spring. In the Upper School, Kent Place offers Flag Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Softball, and Track and Field. Teams will compete in league play, tournaments, and NJISAA and NJSIAA championships.

Softball
Coach Jacklyn Torres, now in her third year with the program, has taken the reins as Softball’s head coach. She is joined by Assistant Coaches Melissa Semidey and Alex Luna. Returning standout Lyla Sartorius ’26 led the team last season with 30 hits in 67 at-bats, posting an impressive .448 batting average along with 18 RBIs. On the mound, Emma Geppel ’26 also had a remarkable season, recording a career-best 105 strikeouts over 83 innings pitched with a 4.28 ERA. With a solid core of returners and a new coaching staff, the team is poised for an exciting season ahead in the Mountain Division.

Flag Football
Flag Football enters its third season and second year in the NJSIAA pilot program with great momentum, featuring an expanded game schedule that includes competition in the Big Central Conference (BCC) and five independent games. The team proudly participated in the first-ever BCC Media Day, during which its captains represented the Dragons alongside other top programs in the region. This season also welcomes new leadership, with Darren Ransom stepping in as head coach and Richard Benn joining as assistant coach.

Lacrosse
In Lacrosse, the team looks to build off a great 2024 season that saw them reach the Union County semifinal, the Prep Tournament final, and the State Tournament semifinal. The team also finished top of its division to become NJIGLL Stars & Stripes Blue Division Champions. Coach Ashley Quinn will lead the team in her ninth season.

Golf
Last season Golf competed in a combined Essex/Union County league, going undefeated in its division. The team won the Super Essex Conference Tournament and three players finished among the top 10. Golf welcomes Michelle Stevenson, who will be co-head coach with returning Coach Tom Montesion.

Track and Field
Our Track and Field athletes are eager to exceed their personal bests. We welcome back 16 athletes from the winter season as well as new and returning spring athletes. Watch out for Isla Naik ’26 in the 3200, looking to improve on her fifth place at the Union County Conference Championships, as well as Misa Glover ’26 in the 100m, 200m, and 400m.
