Dragons Set to Soar: 2024 Fall Preseason Comes to a Close
The Dragons are back on the field and ready to take on the competition! Kent Place Upper School athletes returned to campus for the 2024–2025 fall preseason on Monday, August 19. This year, 155 students participated in tryouts for cross-country (Varsity), field hockey (JV and Varsity), soccer (JV and Varsity), tennis (JV and Varsity), and volleyball (JV and Varsity).
Over the past two weeks, the athletes have been pushing themselves and one another to new heights even before the first whistle.
“We’re looking forward to a great season,” says Cross-Country Head Coach Danielle Stanton. “We have a lot of young runners who have been working hard all summer, and we’re excited to see the payoff in our races.”
Says Field Hockey Captain Aurielle Wolf ’25, “I can’t believe it’s my last fall season as a Dragon. I’ve loved being captain for the past two years. It’s taught me how to lead others to success and I’m so proud of our team. I can’t wait to see what the season holds for us.”
During preseason, Volleyball Head Coach Reynaldo Ferreira quoted UConn’s Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma to emphasize the importance of honest feedback for personal and team growth: “Surround yourself with those who tell you what you need to hear,” he told the team, “not only what you want to hear.” Coach Rey says he’s looking forward to seeing what he’s dubbed a “super-energetic and united team” play at home against their rivals.
The countdown to the season opener has begun: the first games are scheduled for September 3. Be sure to check out the full fall athletics schedule.
Let’s cheer on our Dragons — and don’t forget to wear your green and gold!
