Dragons Dominate the Tennis Courts

Dragons Dominate the Tennis Courts

Kent Place tennis teams are having another stellar season. A perennial powerhouse in the Union County, state, and private school leagues, both the KPS Varsity and the Junior Varsity are wonders on the courts.

So far this season, Varsity Tennis is standing strong with a 13–3 record, and Junior Varsity has an outstanding record of 9–1. The Dragons also continue to dominate in regional tournaments. Varsity won the Union County Tournament for the fourth consecutive time, in addition to winning the Moorestown Classic Tournament for the second year in a row. They even made it all the way to the Team State Semifinal match this year!

“What made our season so successful is that each person stepped up when it was needed most to achieve the win,” says Varsity Captain Alex Anderson ’23. “Our teammates have a strong bond on and off the court.”

“The Varsity Tennis program is special to me because of the relationships I’ve been able to build during my three years on the team,” says Varsity Tennis Captain Annabelle Walter ’24. “Though we've had many successes this year, we've also had some very hard losses, and in those moments we've been able to come together as a team and support one another.”

The Varsity team is led by Head Coach Dave Phimsipasom and Assistant Coach Alexandra Domanski. JV is led by Head Coach Bettina Hernandez and Assistant Coach Maureen Kaelin. KPS also offers tennis at the Middle School level, coached by Kate Hunzinger.

Through conditioning, on-court drills, and interscholastic matches, coaches ensure that players are always improving their strokes, developing an imposing repertoire of shots, and never losing their competitive spirit. The tennis program promotes a culture of excellence, athleticism, and sportsmanship, so it’s no surprise that the players continue to achieve success.

With only a few regular-season matches left, be sure to cheer on our KPS Tennis Dragons as they close out a monumental season!
