Dragons Deliver a Standout Fall Athletics Season

Dragons Deliver a Standout Fall Athletics Season

This fall, Kent Place School offered a strong lineup of athletic programs in the Upper School, in cross country (Varsity), field hockey (Junior Varsity and Varsity), soccer (Junior Varsity and Varsity), tennis (Junior Varsity and Varsity), and volleyball (Junior Varsity and Varsity). As the season winds down, we celebrate a series of outstanding achievements by our Dragons.

The Upper School Tennis program maintained its tradition of excellence. The Junior Varsity team went undefeated and picked up some hardware along the way: The JV Dragons won the first-ever Big Blue Invitational. Varsity Tennis captured the Union County Tournament title for an impressive 10th consecutive year and claimed the Watchung Division championship. Keira Kapur ’27 was honored as Union County Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Kent Place Varsity was honored as Union County Team of the Year.

Cross Country had a very strong season with top finishes in many meets. At their first meet of the season, Roxbury Invitational, the team placed second overall. Summer Rae Sharma ’29 had a standout first season finishing in the top 20 in four meets. Her 19th-place finish at a time of 20:24 at the NJSIAA Group meet was good enough to earn her a spot on Meet of Champions. Summer Rae saved her best race for last, running a personal record of 19:54 at the Meet of Champions.

Varsity Soccer went undefeated in its division, securing the title of Union County Valley Division Champions. The team will be promoted to the Mountain Division following its successful season.

Varsity Field Hockey continued its success in the NJISAA, NJSIAA, and Union County tournaments. The team made it to the semifinals of the Union County and NJSIAA tournaments.

Varsity Volleyball had a strong season: 16 wins and a NJSIAA semifinal appearance after a 3-0 win in the first round of NJSIAA play and a 3-1 win in the quarterfinal round of NJSIAA play. The team also made it to the NJISAA tournament semifinal.

Don’t forget to check the winter calendar to continue showing your support for our athletes.
