Dragon Pride Shines During Third-Annual Sport & Spirit Day

More than 200 Dragon fans came out in force on Saturday, September 19 for Kent Place’s annual Sport & Spirit Day.

The festivities kicked off with plenty of opportunities to show KPS pride. Community members made their own spirit wear — green-and-gold tutus, headbands, bracelets, and signs — and played games for the chance to win KPS-themed prizes. Guests then enjoyed a BBQ spread and treats from the Kona Ice truck before heading to the sidelines to cheer on the Dragons.

Fueled by an enthusiastic home crowd, Kent Place athletes delivered on an impressive day of competition. Both Field Hockey teams earned hard-fought, shutout victories over neighboring Summit. Varsity won with two goals and JV with one. JV Soccer came out on top in a thrilling 3–2 matchup against Morristown, while Varsity and JV Volleyball each defeated Pioneer Academy in straight sets.

“The green and gold pride was unmistakable across campus for Sport & Spirit Day,” said Vicky Browne, Director of Athletics. “Having our community show up to cheer and support us through six exciting home games means the world to our teams. Seeing all ages unite, from Primary School poster-makers to Middle School cheerleaders, demonstrated the true meaning of our sisterhood. We couldn’t be prouder to represent Kent Place and celebrate what it truly means to be a Dragon.”

The festivities continued on Tuesday, “Spirit-wear Dress-down Day,” when students, faculty, and staff filled campus with even more green and gold.

A huge thank-you to everyone behind the scenes — the Kent Place Advancement Team; Cochairs Marta Colgan P ’33, Brooke Ferratti P ’29 ’31, and Anne Pierce P ’32 ’34, of the Parents’ Association; and the Dragon Athletic Club — who helped make both days a roaring success.
