Tennis Advances to Individual Finals

KPS sent five individual players to the Individual State Singles and Doubles tournament between October 5 and October 12. Senior Julia Anderson reached the third round and freshman Alex Anderson reached the fourth round upsetting Lisa Seiler from Moorestown Friends in round three, which was a great comeback for Alex who had lost to Seiler earlier in the year.

Freshman Caroline McGinley earned a spot in the State Sectional Finals Singles Tournament on October 19. After several solid wins in the early rounds, Caroline defeated Mayjah Jean-Pierre in straight sets. In the semifinals, Caroline was up against Daria Smetannikov of Red Bank Catholic. Caroline dropped the first set in a tiebreaker and was down 4-5 in the second set before winning the final three games of set two to win 7-5. Demonstrating great composure, Caroline notched her third set 6-1 to advance to the finals on October 19.

In the doubles draw, junior Remy Charters and senior Grace McGinley were unseeded but proved the committee made a mistake by defeating several seeded teams. In the second round, the duo made short work of the second-seeded doubles team from Millburn 6-4, 6-3, and followed up in the quarterfinals defeating the 5-8 seed from Holmdel in two sets. In the semifinals, Grace and Remy trailed 2-5 in the deciding set against 5-8 seed from Haddonfield. True to form, however, the dynamic duo of McGinley and Charters demonstrated their grit and resilience winning five games in a row to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory and advance to the doubles finals next Saturday.

Head Coach Mike Manna commented after the matches, "This a tremendous accomplishment for the team and for the school. We are very proud of our student-athletes!"
