Dragons Drop to ALJ

Bobbi Moran
The KPS varsity field hockey team took home their second disappointment of the season in a 3-1 loss to Union County rival ALJ on Tuesday. Despite excellent passing and ball control the Dragons could not get on the positive side of the scoreboard on Tuesday in a Union County match up against Arthur L Johnson High School. KPS threatened early by pressuring the home team's defensive zone in less than 45 seconds of the start of play earning a defensive corner; however the team was unable to convert the opportunity into a goal, which became the theme for the remainder of the game.

Kent Place worked the midfield and transition game beautifully on Tuesday, creating passing combinations and eliminating ALJ in key areas of the field. The home team earned six corners and converted on three of them to get on the board while the visitors, who also earned six corners, were only able to convert on one thanks to the crafty work of Pilar Torres and her corner team.

Last week's Mate of the Match sticks went to returning varsity players, junior Audrey Alix and sophomore Lauren Rusas. On Tuesday these were handed off to KPS and varsity new comers sophomore Claire Tratnyek and freshman Heidi Rosely, who were relentless for the Dragons despite the 3-1 deficit.

The team looks to regroup this week and learn from their experience as they gear up to host a talented West Essex's squad to Pat Conley Field on September 17 at 4:30pm. Hope to see you there.
