Joy Charles Kay ’80: Executive Director, Montclair Shared Housing
Ms. Kay has been the Executive Director for Montclair Shared Housing Association (MSHA), which owns and operates The Montclair Inn, since January 2015. The Montclair Inn is a 21-bed affordable residence in the heart of Montclair, NJ, for independent senior citizens.
She manages the day-to-day operations, oversees the intake process of residents, coordinates all senior activities, manages the organization’s web site and social media sites, and works closely with the eight-member Board of Trustees to increase the fundraising capacity of the organization. She also works to mobilize advocacy for senior citizens in Montclair as a member of the Senior Citizen’s Advocacy Committee. This town committee is responsible for helping older adults remain active and engage in all aspects of life throughout the township of Montclair.
An experienced non-profit professional, Ms. Kay was previously the Director of Development at Family Connections, Inc., and is currently a media consultant for Homes of Montclair Ecumenical Corporation (HOMECorp). Prior to working in the non-profit social services arena, Ms. Kay was the Associate Director of Foundations and Stewardship at Kent Place School, where she wrote grants and assisted with the development of the major gifts program.
Ms. Kay earned a bachelor’s degree in English and political science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Montclair State University. Ms. Kay is active in the Montclair community, where she is a member of the Worship and Creative Arts Ministry and the Leader of Moms in Prayer, an international group for women, at Christ Church.
