Science

The Kent Place Science Program inspires young women to be confident, scientifically-informed citizens, and leaders. Through inquiry, experimentation, data analysis, and collaboration, students learn to question their world and apply critical thinking skills to understand and solve real-life problems. Demonstrating persistence, resilience, and curiosity, our students can confidently communicate their scientific understanding, values, and fact-based positions.

We aim to inspire women to pursue careers in STEM fields. In every grade level, students develop scientific reasoning skills to construct knowledge as they probe the physical world. Within our curriculum, students observe a phenomenon and learn to develop and test their own explanations. Students gain context for the principles we study while learning the scientific abilities that will be useful later as they pursue a career in STEM or any field.

Did You Know...

  • 89% of our students take at least one Advanced Placement Science Course.
all students grades 5-10 participated in a scientific experiment design competition. As a result, one of our student designed experiments has been selected to launch to the International Space Station.
  • Upper School students engage in scientific field experiences by conduct biodiversity analysis at Reeves-Reed Arboretum, test water quality in the Passaic River and measuring lichen growth as a means to monitor air quality.
  • Skype with soil scientists through our AP Environmental Science field experiences.
  • Last year over 200 Middle School students participated in the Kent Place Science Expo where they had the opportunity to present the results of their scientific explorations to an audience of their peers and parents.
  • The Kent Place Science department has hosted an astronaut, NASA scientists, and engineers to talk to our students about preparing for STEM careers.
