Commitment to Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism

Kent Place’s Commitment to Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism

Kent Place School condemns racism in all forms and will not tolerate it at our school. In the midst of the nation’s ongoing reckoning with race, discrimination, and systemic inequity, we reaffirm our commitment to ensure that every student in our community is safe, valued, and respected within an inclusive environment. We take very seriously our responsibility to our students of color, and indeed to our whole community.

With input from the community, we have developed a comprehensive anti-bias/anti-racism action plan. We have important work to do in the months and years ahead in the service of our goal of being a truly inclusive community free of racism. We firmly believe that these steps, as well as those to come, will benefit every single member of our community, and to that end, we look forward to creating a better Kent Place for all — so that we can empower all students in our care to become confident, intellectual, and ethical leaders who advance our world.

Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism Action Plan

Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism Task Forces
Kent Place School works at the Leadership, Board of Trustees, and Alumnae Association levels to advance our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at all levels of the school. These committees work to develop and implement the anti-bias/anti-racism action plan, monitor and measure progress to ensure accountability, and engage the wider community to build networks of support and mentorship.
All faculty and staff at Kent Place participate in anti-bias and Intergroup Dialogue training (Dialogue is a process of genuine interaction to listen deeply and respectfully to one other), which continues at the division and department level throughout the year. At the Leadership level, staff participate in additional deep-dive DEI training focused on institutional anti-bias/anti-racism and equity.
Faculty Evaluation
Kent Place has integrated our Multi-Cultural Educational Self-Assessment tool into the ongoing review process for faculty, with regular checkpoints for all teachers with Division Directors throughout the year.
Community Engagement
Our Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging works in partnership with the Director of Parent Engagement, the Parents' Association, and the subsidiary Diversity and Equity Parent Group to develop programming for parents related to diversity and anti-bias/anti-racism.

Kent Place is undergoing a diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging audit of our curriculum. This effort is conducted in partnership with Division Directors, Department Chairs, the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning, and all faculty in Junior Pre-K through 12th Grade.
Student Support
Kent Place employs an Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging focused specifically on student support, with a mandate to support and expand the availability of student Affinity Groups in the Middle and Upper School based on student feedback about interest and need.
Faculty Support
Kent Place supports Affinity Groups at the faculty and staff level, conducts ongoing reviews of hiring practices, and provides anti-bias training for anyone with hiring responsibility.
Reporting System and Discipline Policy
Kent Place has developed a reporting system and clearly defined our disciplinary protocols in the event of a violation of the school’s anti-discrimination policy.

Kent Place School is an all-girls K through 12 independent college preparatory day school with a coeducational Preschool, located in Summit, NJ.
