Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are foundational to our mission to educate girls and young women for meaningful and impactful participation in a global community.

Kent Place School strives to promote justice and equity to create a school and working environment that is affirming and inclusive, where each member feels safe, valued and respected. Kent Place respects and honors diversity, which includes (but is not limited to) age, ethnicity, family structure, gender identity, national origin, physical ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic background.

Our Commitment

At Kent Place School, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are foundational principles upon which excellence and community are built. Committed to equity in both practice and policy, we work to ensure that all members of our community experience a sense of belonging and voice and develop respect for one another as well as the global society. We actively reject all forms of discrimination, intolerance, and bias; seek reflective and respectful dialogue; and hold ourselves accountable for recognizing personal and collective responsibility to these principles.

DEIB PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES

In 2020, we launched an Action Plan to accelerate DEIB efforts and initiatives at all levels of the school. This comprehensive effort included a series of steps designed to help us build a more equitable and inclusive community, and the Board of Trustees committed to provide an annual report to the community on our progress.

Some of the initiatives reflect one-time changes to policies or practices, and others, such as training for faculty and staff, as well as community engagement, reflect ongoing commitments.

DEIB TASK FORCES

Our DEIB task forces champion and lead our DEIB work across the Kent Place community. Kent Place School works at the Leadership, Board of Trustees, and Alumnae Association Board levels to advance our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at all levels of the school.

The school established DEIB task forces at the Board of Trustees and Alumnae Council levels, and we also formed the DEIB Race Equity Committee, which comprises administrators, faculty, staff, parents, alumnae, and representatives from the Board DEIB Task Force and the Alumnae Council. These groups work to advance and implement the Action Plan and engage the wider community to build networks of support and mentorship. The Board of Trustees' Audit Committee monitors and measures progress to ensure accountability.
