Kent Place School’s long-standing Honor Code contributes to an environment of integrity and trust.
The Kent Place School mission is summed up in our maxim: “With wisdom she lights the way.” We point each student in the right direction, but we expect her to chart her own path.
The candle is a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment. At Opening Convocation each year, the Kent Place community holds a candlelighting ceremony and together we reflect on our hopes for the year.
All three divisions begin most of their days with Morning Meeting. Upper School girls lead their own Morning Meeting and set the agenda as well. The students gather on the central staircase in the Main Building to start the day.
The daisy, our school flower, remains a powerful symbol of growth and plays an important role in many of our ceremonies and special events. At Opening Convocation, for example, every student is handed a daisy, and juniors hold the daisy chain that guides seniors to their graduation.
At graduation, every Kent Place senior shakes hands with every teacher. This gesture is symbolic of the individual attention we give each student as we encourage her to develop her own definitions of excellence and leadership—and live by them.
Our greatest tradition is academic excellence, as indicated by our students’ success as National Merit Scholars, on Advanced Placement tests, and in a number of local, regional, and national academic competitions.
Kent Place History & Traditions
Seventy-three percent of faculty members at Kent Place hold advanced degrees.
Whether they date back more than a century,
decades, or just a few years, the traditions we value most remind
us of the strength and closeness of this community.
