| Through a range of exciting
hands-on activities, our Primary School science specialists
harness young girls’ natural curiosity about their world
in the interest of science. One current project has
cast the girls in the role of “amateur ornithologists,”
as they observe and count the birds that visit the feeders
right outside their classroom window. |

In addition to identifying different species by their
appearance and habits, the students are learning how
to record data for later analysis and share it with
other classes. They are also submitting their results
to Project FeederWatch, a national bird-tracking effort
run by the Cornell University Ornithology Lab. Through
this and other projects, our girls don’t simply learn
the scientific process—they live it. |
