Primary School | Grades K-5

In Primary School, we believe that feedback and growth are closely linked to opportunities. Students need opportunities to think deeply about concepts to move from knowledge acquisition to genuine understanding. As their understanding deepens, opportunities to reflect on their growth and build independence must follow. These cycles of thinking, understanding, reflection, and working independently are what we call learning.

Our Primary School faculty designs instruction that invites learning and prepares students for life outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to explain their thinking as concepts become increasingly complex. At designated times during the school year, students and their families receive formal feedback regarding students’ growth and learning (e.g., parent-teacher conferences, report cards). Our teachers provide daily, informal feedback and opportunities for students to reflect on their learning. 

Every Primary School faculty member is committed to the academic and personal development of our Primary School children. We believe that providing a safe learning environment for students includes creating space to thrive academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. 

Our Primary School Psychologist, nurse, and team of learning specialists meet regularly with homeroom teachers to assess students’ needs, discuss appropriate instructional strategies, and create action plans for targeted concerns. This team approach to student support in connection with well-designed learning experiences ensures that we consistently offer high-quality student-teacher interactions.
 

Primary School students develop deeper conceptual understanding when they engage in interdisciplinary learning experiences. Through careful planning and collaboration across content areas, we provide these rich opportunities for students. As a result, our students can apply their learning across contexts, make meaningful connections, and explore the complexities of our world.
