Kent Place School welcomed award-winning author E. Lockhart on Tuesday, February 23. She addressed the entire Middle and Upper Schools, as well as students from the school’s Advanced Fiction Writing Workshop, editors of the student literary magazine and officers of LitLoose, the student reading group. The author of three wildly popular “Ruby Oliver” books -- The Boyfriend List, The Boy Book and The Treasure Map of Boys -- E. Lockhart wrote a number of other novels such as Fly on the Wall, How to Be Bad and Dramarama. Her book The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks was a Printz Award honor book, a finalist for the National Book Award, and recipient of the Cybils Award for best young adult novel. “Lockhart has a terrific built-in audience in both the Middle and Upper Schools. She’s both funny and painfully honest about the issues and challenges that confront young women today,” said John Walz, Middle/Upper School head librarian. Kent Place School hosts numerous author visits a year. In November, the Primary School welcomed author/illustrator of Bully, Judith Caseley, and Wendy Mass, author of the Twice Upon a Time fairy tale series. This March, the Primary School will host performance artist and author of the classic book Cornrows, Camille Yarbrough, as well as author/illustrator Paulette Bogan of the Spike dog series. |
