On Thursday and Friday, November 12 and 13, the Kent Place School Drama Department presented the Upper School fall play “Catholic School Girls,” a warm-hearted hit comedy of growing up Catholic in the sixties, by award-winning playwright Casey Kurtti. The play was performed in one act, without intermission, at the Hyde and Watson Theater on the school’s Summit campus. Noted Department Chair Robert Pridham, who recently also directed a production at The Chatham Playhouse, “Catholic School Girls takes us back to that particular place and time, a world where adult rule was absolute, and children learned to navigate the mysterious waters of faith with little more than an unquestioning belief in the wisdom of their elders.” The cast included Baily Blanchard, Alana DiSabatino, Meghan Ferguson, Emma Forstenhausler, Chelsea Frankel, Abrina Hyatt, Elizabeth Miggins, Samantha Narciso, Koby Omansky, Emilia Pazniokas, Alicia Whavers and Katja Yacker. Jaya Robillard and Meghan Ferguson providedd stage management and production assistance. The scenic design was courtesy of department assistant Danielle Rumsey. The theater program at Kent Place is committed to the production of musical and non-musical theater, and maintains a special focus on the creation and performance of new plays. In tri-state competitions, Upper School theater productions have received multiple awards for excellence in production and performance. |
