| Sixth-grade history students
learn to meld modern technology with ancient civilizations
for their final presentations, which are done in PowerPoint.
After spending the year immersed in ancient Greece,
Rome, Egypt and Mesopotamia, students take the skills
they have learned in Computer class to present their
own original analysis of some aspect of these civilizations.
Past literally meets present as the girls figure out
how best to harness technology to convey their ideas.
This makes the assignment much more than a research
project, notes history teacher Karen Malm. |

“It involves a higher level
of thinking because they are presenting an original
analysis,” she says, “and they can organize
their presentation in any way they want, with whatever
words and images they want. Creatively, they can really
shine.” After delivering their presentations to
the class, they place them on the school’s server
for review by Ms. Malm—making the project entirely
paperless. |
