Proposed Upper and Middle School Academic Center, east elevation, Norwood Avenue streetscape
With Phase I, the construction of the new Upper School Academic Center having drawn to a close in June of 2009, the school is now immersed in Phase II of the Campaign for Kent Place School, the renovation of the former Upper School into a new Middle School. Funds for these two projects have already been secured including a $3 million addition to the school's endowment.
The excitement generated from students and faculty alike as they acclimate to their new surroundings is profound. Light pours through enormous windows, many of which look out on an interior courtyard. Magnificent woodwork echoing the woodwork of the old main building is evident throughout. Great care has been taken to reflect the charm of the older building using window seats and leaded windows, but do not be taken in! The 21st century is fully present. There are interactive white boards in every classroom and the latest in cutting-edge technology is evident in every detail. The labs, chemistry, physics, biology and environmental, are university level. The Music Center is awe-inspiring with soaring ceilings and the finest acoustics. Finally, the new commons area, now known as "The Great Room," is a cozy, welcoming, central location which will have a myriad of uses from Morning Meeting to small instrumental, dance, drama and vocal performances.
As you know, the theme of this campaign has been, "Inspiring Tomorrow's Leaders." The Campaign for Kent Place School was launched with the single mission of providing all that is in the best interest of our students. A Music Center that reflects the wonderful vocal and instrumental talent at Kent Place, new academic space that acknowledges the intellect of our students and the inspirational teaching of a superior faculty; these are the benefits to be realized by the completion of this campaign, these are the tools that will inspire and empower our students every day.
