Gaining Confidence for the Future in our Upper School

High standards, unlimited opportunities and encouragement shape the learning environment in the Kent Place Upper School. A ninth grader leads an animated class discussion on The Odyssey. A science lab group gathers live data using Vernier probeware connected to their laptops. A sophomore in the recording studio creates a DVD of her cello performances to apply for a place in the all-state orchestra. A student in the senior class lounge checks the latest Dow Index before she heads to economics class. We expect our students to rise to challenges, and they do. Kent Place provides an intense learning experience that helps students grow as critical thinkers, problem solvers, leaders and global citizens.

279 students from 66 communities. 8:1 student-faculty ratio.


Academic Highlights

Rigorous, college preparatory curriculum with more than 20 Advanced Placement courses. Extensive offerings in visual art, music, dance and drama. Independent study option for seniors. Strong academic and college advising. Honor Code.


Spaces for Learning

New Upper School building completed in 2009 includes science labs, classrooms, gathering spaces, vocal and instrumental rooms, music practice rooms and a recording studio. Library and arts studio. Arts Center with a theater, art gallery and dance studio.


Technology

As part of the 1:1 Program, each ninth grader receives a laptop computer for use during her four years of Upper School at Kent Place. Technology is incorporated throughout the curriculum to enhance learning.


Clubs, Activities and Community Service

More than 20 student clubs, publications and honor societies. Many opportunities to participate in community service. Read more about Clubs and Activites.


Athletics

12 interscholastic teams and two club teams. Facilities include a field house, weight room, two multipurpose synthetic turf fields and five tennis courts.


Dining Hall

Hot entrees, deli sandwiches, soups and a salad bar.
